DESCRIPTION:This neighborhood tour is an education collaboration with the P
 ittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. \nIn the 1890s\, so many wealt
 hy industrialists and merchants built mansions in a section of what was th
 en Allegheny City that one of the streets there was nicknamed Millionaire
 ’s Row. Men with familiar last names of Jones\, Laughlin\, Phipps\, and 
 Kaufmann hired well-known architects to build their mansions and churches.
  A variety of Victorian architectural styles—Colonial Revival\, Richards
 onian Romanesque\, Italianate\, Second Empire\, and Greek Revival—filled
  the streets. Many of the structures still stand in Allegheny West\, Pitts
 burgh’s smallest neighborhood.\nOur docents will guide you through the n
 eighborhood as they discuss the area’s affluent past\, its prosperous pr
 esent\, and the buildings’ architectural details. Highlights will includ
 e the house where America’s Agatha Christie began her career\; the birth
 place of a famous ex-patriot writer\; and the home where the Steelers’ A
 rt and Dan Rooney lived. You also will learn how residents banded together
  in the 1960s to prevent urban renewal from altering their neighborhood’
 s ambience.\n\nTour meeting point: Brighton Road and Western Avenue\, Pitt
 sburgh\, PA 15212. Meet in the park on the northwest corner.\n\nPlease arr
 ive 15 minutes before start time in order to ensure that the tour gets und
 erway on time.\n\nAccessibility: There is a slight uphill walk from the to
 ur’s starting point to Ridge Avenue. This tour is handicap accessible. P
